This 9-day Uganda gorilla habituation experience and chimpanzee safari covers the western circuit and introduces you to iconic destinations with unique attractions. Your ultimate primate and wildlife experience includes a visit to Kibale Forest National Park for chimpanzee tracking, game viewing in Queen Elizabeth National Park, and gorilla trekking in Bwindi Impenetrable National Park. It also guarantees you magnificent views of the spectacular Crater Lakes and the Rwenzori Mountain ranges in the background.

Itinerary

Day 01 :
Welcome to Uganda & Travel to Kibale Forest National park.

Meet and greet your driver-guide from Uganda Luxury Tours. You will be briefed about your 9-day Uganda gorilla and chimpanzee safari experience, then begin your journey to Kibale Forest National Park, the primate capital of the world.

Located in Kabarole District, Western Uganda, Kibale National Park is home to 13 species of primates, making it the best primate destination in East Africa. These include 1,500 chimpanzees, hundreds of black and white colobus monkeys, L’Hoest monkeys, olive baboons, red-tailed monkeys, red colobus monkeys, and more.

Your journey to Kibale begins from Kampala through Mityana, Mubende, Kyegegwa, and Fort Portal, where you will settle for lunch. Continue to your luxury lodge for ultimate relaxation.

Day 02 :
Chimpanzee Habituation experience & Bigodi wetland walk.

Enjoy a hearty breakfast, then proceed to Kanyanchu Tourist Center to be briefed about guidelines for chimpanzee tracking. At 8:00 a.m., begin the search for Kibale Forest chimpanzees with an experienced park guide. The activity is expected to last 2–4 hours and includes a magical 1-hour encounter.

Chimpanzees share 98% of their DNA with humans, making them our closest relatives. In addition to the magical encounter with chimpanzees, you may also spot other primates, birds, floral species, and butterflies. After the encounter, return to the lodge for relaxation. In the afternoon, transfer to Bigodi Wetland to search for more primates and birds like the Great Blue Turaco, among other mammals. The Bigodi Wetland Sanctuary offers a typical community-based tourism experience, and your visit supports this initiative.

Day 03 :
Travel to Queen Elizabeth National Park – Game Drive & Night Game Drive

Leave Kibale Forest National Park in Kabarole District for Queen Elizabeth National Park with a scenic 2–3 hour drive. Enjoy views of the spectacular Crater Lakes, banana farms, and the Rwenzori Mountains of the Moon in the background. Upon arrival, keep an eye out for animals grazing near the park.

Enjoy a leisurely lunch at the luxury lodge and later set off for an afternoon game drive on the Kasenyi trail to see big game, antelopes, birds, etc. You will also have a night game drive to spot nocturnal species, including elusive leopards, mongooses, and others.

Day 04 :
Morning Game Drive & Boat Cruise on Kazinga Channel

Set off for a guided game drive in your luxurious 4x4 safari vehicle. Take the Kasenyi track and spend 2–3 hours exploring the hidden treasures of Queen Elizabeth National Park, Uganda’s second-largest park, covering an area of 1,978 sq. km. Enjoy uninterrupted views of big game such as elephants, buffaloes, leopards, lions, antelopes, warthogs, birds, and more.

Return from the game drive while observing more animals. Have a leisurely lunch, share your stories, and later conclude the day with a boat cruise on the Kazinga Channel. The cruise lasts about 2–3 hours, offering great chances to see hippos, crocodiles, aquatic birds, and more.

Day 05 :
Travel to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park

Enjoy an early breakfast at your luxury lodge, then meet your Uganda Luxury Tours driver-guide for a transfer to Bwindi. En route, make a stop at Ishasha for a game drive to spot tree-climbing lions and other wildlife. Enjoy a bush lunch, then proceed to your lodge in Bwindi Impenetrable National Park.

Day 06 :
Gorilla Tracking & Transfer to Lake Bunyonyi

After breakfast, proceed to the Bwindi Park offices for a briefing about gorilla trekking rules and be assigned park guides and a gorilla family. Bwindi has 20 gorilla groups, but only one group will be visited by your group of 8 visitors as per gorilla trekking standards. The trek lasts 2–6 hours and includes 1 hour of close encounter, photography, and observing gorilla behavior. Afterward, receive a gorilla trekking certificate and return to the lodge for relaxation. Later in the afternoon, transfer to Lake Bunyonyi for an evening chill.

Day 07 :
Canoe Trek, Upside Down Island & Batwa Experience

Start your morning with an early breakfast followed by a canoe trek to visit the Upside-Down Island—one of the 29 spectacular islands on Lake Bunyonyi. At the island, explore the unique story of brewers who drowned.

Day 08 :
Travel to Lake Mburo & Night Game Drive

Transfer to Lake Mburo National Park, home to countless antelopes and zebras. Enjoy the splendid view of the hills of Southwestern Uganda en route. Settle for lunch at your comfortable lodge. In the evening, go on a night game drive to view nocturnal species including hyenas, jackals, hares, serval cats, mongooses, and others.

Day 09 :
Guided Nature Walk, Equator Stop & Travel to Kampala

After an early breakfast, embark on a guided nature walk led by an experienced park guide. You may spot several wildlife species on foot, including antelopes, birds, and zebras. Return to the lodge to check out. On the way to Kampala, stop at the Equator crossing—one of the few places where you can take photos while standing on both the Northern and Southern Hemispheres.
